Housing Inspector I

JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS

 

Performs intermediate technical work in housing code inspection; does related work as required. Additionally performs intermediate technical work in the inspection of all phases of building plans and construction. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Assistant Director of Housing Inspection. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in building construction and/or permit inspections. Qualifications to obtain at minimum, a state of Ohio issued Residential Building Inspector certification. Electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing experience preferred. Refer to state certification qualifications matrix here: http://www.com.ohio.gov/documents/150.pdf SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Ohio. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions. Install partitions, doors, and windows. Required Experience and Education: Must be willing and able to commute to various job sites (mainly in northeast Ohio). High School Diploma or GED preferred. 3+ years related experience preferred. Able to read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to the position and safety requirements. Proven ability to multi-task. Adhere to company safety standards. Works well in a collaborative/team environment. Consistently meets deadlines. Ability to regularly lift up to 40-50 lbs.

Position Summary:

Aptitude/Abilities/Skills: • HS Diploma required • Must have good working knowledge of office software and be able to create documents • This position may have an unusual amount of varied tasks, as it will support many different departments. Person must be organized, flexible, and work with each manager to establish priority of assignments • Must present a professional image (in person, over the phone, via email) and be able to maintain confidentiality as needed • Must have excellent verbal communication skills to deal with internal and external contacts; especially when representing owners and answering the phones • Must be able to write effectively when drafting correspondence for managers/owners • Ability to build positive relationships with our staff and management with a high level of interpersonal skills
